ALPHA BANK presents for the first time in Cyprus the play “2:22 – A Ghost Story” by Danny Robins, a contemporary supernatural thriller that has received rave reviews in London’s West End, was nominated for three Laurence Olivier Awards, and won the “Best New Play” award at the 2022 WhatsOnStage Awards. Five performances will be held at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre as follows: Friday, September 26 at 21:00; Saturday, September 27 at 18:00 (matinee) and 21:00 (evening); and Sunday, September 28 at 18:00 (matinee) and 21:00 (evening).

This is the play that everyone in London was talking about three years ago, calling it a “theatrical phenomenon.” It was first presented in Greece at the Alambra Theatre and later in Thessaloniki during the 2024–2025 theatre season, directed by Fanis Mouratidis.

“2:22 – A Ghost Story” was the major theatrical gamble won by Fanis Mouratidis following the enormous success in Greece and abroad of Christoforos Papakaliatis’s series “Maestro”, in which he stars. Sharing the stage in the leading roles are the popular actors Natalia Dragoumi, Fay Xyla, and Stathis Matzoros, with Giorgos Zafeiropoulos in the role of the policeman.

Written by Danny Robins, creator of the famous BBC podcast “The Battersea Poltergeist”, the thriller combines suspense, humor, and fear, taking the audience through a night filled with tension, where secrets are revealed, and the supernatural makes its presence felt, forcing the characters to confront their inner conflicts and seek the truth about themselves and others.

Comedic and frightening moments are intricately intertwined in a story that could happen next door - or even to us. As everyone wonders if there is life after death, the play asks: “What do you really believe? And are you brave enough to discover the truth?”
In the story, Jen is convinced her new house is haunted, but her husband Sam remains sceptical. During a dinner with old friends, Lorraine and her new partner Ben, tensions rise as they debate the existence of ghosts. As the night progresses, an unsettling presence draws closer, forcing the group to stay awake until 2:22 a.m. to uncover what lies beyond the obvious…
The play opens with an air of mystery and ambiguity, where truth is elusive. As the story unfolds, the characters embark on a journey of self-discovery, revealing hidden facets of themselves and secrets we all may harbor. Through a night full of laughter and adrenaline, nothing is quite what it seems… or is it?

Robins asks whether ghosts could exist in today’s world of Facebook, Spotify, and Amazon Alexa. While we can control almost everything through tiny technological devices, we are also becoming lonelier and more vulnerable. In a time of Covid, climate change, and new wars, we are constantly reminded of our mortality, always questioning whether there is something beyond what we can see and understand. Only the brave will find out.
