“PASSATEMPO”

As part of its tribute to Cypriot playwright Kostas Mannouris, the Nicosia International Festival hosts a single performance of the play Pastime. Director Kostas Silvestros presents the life of actress Serafina Pastatembo, guiding actor Haris Attonis with sensitivity and humour in a production by “Solo for Three”.

Mannouris’s play introduces us to Serafina, who was born as Antonis and lived both life and theatre as a woman - always cast in secondary and tertiary roles, allowing her more prominent colleagues to shine.

Balancing between laughter and tears, Haris Attonis recounts her life in chapters: from childhood to youth, from wear and decay to old age and the approaching end.

Serafina Pastatembo may have lived as a lifelong extra, yet she was the absolute protagonist of her own story. She transformed from Antonis into Serafina, like a chrysalis becoming a butterfly, rebirthing herself on her own terms.

The performance is presented in collaboration with Accept LGBTI Cyprus and Cyprus Pride 2023 and will take place at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre on Tuesday 30 May 2023 at 20:30.
